Where do consultations take place?
Consultations usually take place in my purpose-built log cabin, which offers a private and peaceful environment.
What will happen at my first session?
It’s important you’re happy with your choice of counsellor or psychotherapist, so our first session together will focus on getting to know each other, which will help you to evaluate whether we are well-suited to work together. Our first meeting will allow you to begin to assess whether we could develop a meaningful relationship of openness and trust, which will allow you to move forward in taking control of your problems. I will give you feedback throughout the session so that you can gain a basic understanding of what we would be focusing on during our therapeutic journey.
How long will my course of counselling or psychotherapy last?

This is a collaborative process and therefore we will explore how effective and helpful the process is by having regular reviews. Some people choose to take part in counselling because of a specific problem, such as bereavement. This kind of therapy often takes place over a relatively short period of time. Others prefer to carry out a deeper exploration of their beliefs and behaviours, to get to the root of multiple issues, and of course this takes longer. I am happy to keep seeing any client for as long as you feel the work is effective and leading you in a helpful direction.

However, our ultimate goal needs to focus upon the client gaining the necessary tools to maintain a healthy emotional life.

What is the philosophy that underpins your counselling services?

I believe that:

  • Human beings have a fundamental need to belong to some form of community – we are interdependent and all impact upon each other.
  • Our first attachment experiences as children can have a profound effect on our self-identity, relationships and view of the world as we grow up.
  • Every single person has a right to be treated with respect, dignity and compassion, and valued for who they are.
  • We all make mistakes, but these are vital for us to learn, change and grow.
  • Simply showing kindness and gratitude can help to heal a wounded spirit and heart.
  • We are all responsible for our own choices and decisions, and it is possible to update and re-evaluate our early life experiences to develop a more coherent sense of self.
